Default Start 1970 Ford 360

I have a 1970 Ford F250 that has not been run in about 10 years. There is about 1/4 tank of gas in it. The gas doesn't smell bad but is old.

Has anyone had any experience using old gas? It wouldn't be a big job to drain the tank but if it can be used it would eliminate disposal problems

Comments?

If it were me I'd drain it and use 100% fresh gas, but since it's only 1/4 tank you could prolly just top it up with fresh and be OK. You will go through a lot of fuel filters either way until all the sediments, rust, etc. are filtered out.

The cheapskate in me says... If you've got a good pan to drain it into and extra gas cans to hold it for a bit you could do that. Strain it into the cans using a large funnel with a paper towel or coffee filter inside. Then add it a little at a time to the tank of whatever you're driving.

A good friend of mine spun a wheel bearing in fresh gas to clean it and the whole pan full blew up in his face. Kerosene or diesel is much safer.

Yes, and having a friend with a fire extinguisher watching you is a good thing.

Back to the original question, what to do with old gas. Like it says above, if you strain it into a clean closable container, use in in 5 to 10 percent amounts in any low compression vehicle.
