Any trick to getting the hinges out of 29 Roadster
I am doing some interior work in my 29 Roadster and the door hinges are definitely worn to where the doors don't close properly. I used some spray on the rust and the nuts that I can get to loosened up and I was able to get the bolts out. Some of the nuts are in a channel and I can just barely see them never mind get a wrench on them. I am afraid I can not get enough pressure on a screw driver to loosen them and don't want to screw up the slots so I can never get them out. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

Heat...lots of heat. Not propane. Oxy acetylene heat. It's the only thing that has ever worked for me.

Just a thought, but you might want to consider oversized hinge pins ... this might otherwise avoid the need to take the hinges out/off, depending of course upon your reason(s) for doing so. I did this on our touring car when we re-did it the first time, and the doors lined up much better after having done so. On the driver's door, it was not even necessary to drill the hinge to accommodate the oversized hinge pin. Good luck to you regardless.

Insert appropriate screw driver bit into hinge screw, turn screw driver to the left as hard as you can, and whack it as hard as you can with a 2 pound hammer. Works pretty well. |

Re: Any trick to getting the hinges out of 29 Roadster
Thanks to everyone...I have success! I did some searching for the best liquid to put on and hands down it came back 50/50 ATF/Acetone and let it sit overnight. I then used an impact driver that I forgot I had till someone mentioned it. A few wacks with that and off they came. I was planning to replace them but other that some rust they are in great shape. So I am going to clean them up and paint the heads and use them when I put the doors back on. Thanks again for the ideas and memory jog ( I need THAT every day lol).
