Re: Rebuild my Flat Head
Your best approach would be to pull engine and transmission together and leave drive shaft (Torque tube) in place unless you have other reasons to remove.

https://www.earlyfordv8.org/forum/pr...18&Topic=15711 and https://fordbarn.com/forum/showthrea...3087&showall=1 If you remove the engine and leave the transmission in be sure to first support the front of the transmission. Also Google: How to remove 1935 Ford engine Also, take plenty of photos and written notes as you proceed. Last edited by 19Fordy; 10-03-2022 at 01:34 PM. |

Re: Rebuild my Flat Head
Do you have someone to rebuild the engine? This is a vry serious rebuild. Very few shops can do the pored mains. You might be better off replacing it.
Gramps PS Removing it is the easy part! |

Re: Rebuild my Flat Head
Hopefully it's a later flathead with insert bearings. If you can post pictures of what you have, that will help determining its true age. Good luck on your project, have many people here to steer you in the right direction.

Re: Rebuild my Flat Head
Once the two clam shells that secure the torque tube are removed the the engine/trans can be moved forward off the splines of the drive shaft. A person can support the torque tube by cribbing it from below or suspending it from above. The radiator would likely have to be removed so it's going to take some work there.
If it still has the original motor then it may need some rework of the poured babbitt bearings. If it has a later engine then it may already have removable main bearing shells. |
