Okay, needin some help. I am trying to get an old Unity spotlight up and running, and trying not to get ahead of myself and hook it up cruedly.

I want to install an inline fuse link, and want to know if anyone can tell me what size amp fuse would be sufficient/the old glass style fuse.

The Unity spotlight is using a GE 6volt bulb, and it's going into a 47 Ford 6volt car, positive ground, all stock.

Can anyone also let me know where they think the best tie in for this wire should be when connected to the cars electrical source, not sure if back then conntected to a constant hot and could turn on anytime you wanted, or you had to turn the car ignition first.

Typically the sealed beam units in these spotlights are 30 watt units and will draw @ 5 amps when on, so a 10 amp fuse would be my recommendation.

I would not wire it from the Ignition switch as drawing an extra 5 amps through the switch might cause further problems. Personally I would connect it to the output side of the thermal cut-out unit under the dash. This way there would be two layers of short circuit protection assuming you also install a 10 amp fuse in the line feeding the spotlight as well.

Just my take on it, others may have different suggestions.

I am going to hijack this thread since I am going to be doing the same thing on a 46 biz coupe. Where is the best place to buy the bulbs for those spotlights. It is stamped with a GE number but local parts houses are clueless what to do with a 6volt spotlight bulb! I took apart the handle, cleaned the connection and soldered a new lead wire. With a test light it works great, just needs a new bulb!

PeeWee, did you ever get yours installed and if so, lets see some pics!

I would start by Googleing the bulb number-you may be able to locate them on line.

I will see what I can find. Yesterday while loading more parts from out at the farm to bring hone and sort I found instructions and mounting hardware still in the packaging for a Unity Spotlight. No Light though. Rod

I dug out the box and had a look. All mounting instructions fo late 60's through mid 70's cars and no wiring info. Rod
