Original shocks on my 28 tudor
How many of you guys have rebuilt the original shocks and is it worth the time?
I just found a seal rebuild kit from Snyder's and was gonna give it a try because I love rebuilding the original parts on my car. Just wanting to get any tips and hear your story. Thanks.

Re: Original shocks on my 28 tudor
Rather than trying to rebuild the original shocks on my Dec 3, 1927 Light Delivery, I sent them to Robert Paul in Yoder Colorado as he is a professional shock re-builder, has all the proper tools, and is very reasonable; he even replaced one of the pointers that was damaged. Paul rebuilt my very early shocks about 10 years ago, they still work just fine today and still show no signs of any leaks.

Re: Original shocks on my 28 tudor
Also ..... not to be critical; but, might add that from one (1) experience, not all shock re-builders are alike.
Usually a Model A owner feels two (2) different resistance forces, (one light & one strong), while moving the shock arm up & down and some may think with "any" resistance felt, everything is fine. I have two (2) out of four (4) re-built shocks where after receiving same, the resistance forces are backwards. I next bought "Stipes" new shocks which I found can be adjusted to meet Ford's exact resistance forces specified in Ford's Service Bulletins which made quite a difference while riding on back roads. Nothing but little simple choices in our lives ...... the subject on shocks can be shocking. |

Re: Original shocks on my 28 tudor
Smooth One,
Robert Paul, 34175 Tructon Rd., Yoder, CO 80864. Telephone No. 1-719-478-5102. If he does not answer, leave your call back #. Robert is good about calling back. In case one of your shocks cannot be rebuilt, Robert has shocks and can usually match a replacement, and he is reasonable. Most of the new shocks available run about $250.00 each times 4 = #1,000.00 and this does not include arms or shock links. I believe you will be more than satisfied if you have Robert Paul rebuild your shocks. I failed to mention I also had Robert rebuild the shocks for my 29 Roadster and my 30 Deluxe Coupe. No leaks and they still work fine. Ron |
