'36 was a big year for GM. It was their first year for the "turret top," a one piece steel roof and it's shown very well in the video. Ford was still making a multi-piece roof with the wood and fabric center section. I guess that the big advances that made that possible was being able to roll sheet steel wide enough and having the punch press and die technology necessary for such a large stamping. Ford caught up in '37.

I'm still in awe of the robotics in use way back then. When you think of all the pedestrian technology back then compared to today, and compare the robotics then and today, you'll see that it's one field that had advanced far ahead of its time.

Not robotic, just mechanical transfer.. Everything driven with cams and gears. but I agree very interesting.. I found it interesting how long they left that one big press at bottom.
