1940 Ford Pickup Starter Advice
My starter died today in line at our local 40 Ford day car show luckily a couple bump starts and it was a good day.
Someone suggested power master starters made in the USA I'm looking for advice on where the best place is to buy a starter for a 1940 Ford 1/2 ton pickup and any other related advice is much appreciated. Thanks! |

Re: 1940 Ford Pickup Starter Advice
I would check it out before saying its dead. There is not much to them . Lots of replacement parts and used ones still out there.
. All the same except v860 and the 51-53 automatic transmission |

The power master starter was the second thing I installed after rewiring my 47. Nice unit

Re: 1940 Ford Pickup Starter Advice
I have quite a few 40 starters, if your interested in another used one I can test it first and let you know.

Re: 1940 Ford Pickup Starter Advice
There's got to be a shop in O/C that can test/repair a starter. Like others have said it probably can be repaired, most likely not a big job. If your starter is toast I have a working 6 volt unit that I took out after I converted to 12 volts.

Re: 1940 Ford Pickup Starter Advice
I've used several Power Master starters on my flatheads and have found them very reliable.

Re: 1940 Ford Pickup Starter Advice
Thanks everyone for your time a great advice I really appreciate it. Being new to flatheads can be intimidating but I'm learning. And like the antique bike hobby tons of great early Ford folks that are super helpful.

Re: 1940 Ford Pickup Starter Advice
I have a Power Master on mine. Works good. BTW did you happen to see any 40 pickups for sale there? I have a young guy up here looking for a nice flathead powered 40-41 pickup.

Re: 1940 Ford Pickup Starter Advice
Thank you, I don't think any of the pickups were for sale. There were several cars for sale and a panel truck. I will double check the pics I took.
