Re: 1939 right rear drum install
Hi,
Thanks for all the help with the drums. I got the rear right one all back together like I said before. I started on the left rear brakes. The drum doesn’t turn and it doesn’t seem to want to break loose. Is there a type of wheel puller that would work in freeing up the hub? Thanks for your help. |

It sounds like the shoes are holding the drum from turning. Attempt to fully release the shoes against drum by adjusting INWARD completely. Again, make sure the PARKING brake is also fully released. Even a GOOD, quality 'puller' is going to have a difficult (if not impossible) time removing a drum that will not turn. Report back, please! DD |

has the rear end been sitting for a long time, like the shoes are rusted to the drum? you should get them to turn before using a puller or the stuck shoes get cocked sideways and will make you angry !

Re: 1939 right rear drum install
Hi, I backed off the brake adjusters and I still couldn’t move the drum. So I put one of my 21 inch wheels on the drum and was able to finally rotate the drum. When I took off the drum, the front shoe on the outer edge had been rubbing I think on the drum. I will have to figure out why it was doing that.

Re: 1939 right rear drum install
sometimes when changing to hydraulics the backing plate will touch the drum, a little grinding required, and sometimes if the hub and/or axle are worn then hub goes on too deep. They make a shim for the axle end to fix this. not ideal, but its gets you moving again
