Default your experience 12 volt starter conversion

I have changed 2,mine spins not quite as fast as 6 volt starter, does not have the harsh engagement what is others,reason I did first,I took my starter in for a rebuild,which was my spare,rebuilder had the coils,has original style bendix,that was in 1997 my only regret is it doesn't have that model a 6 volt starting sound
