8BA water temp,sender thread size
Hi guys I,m looking to fit as temporary till I can sort out the original a remote temp, gauge on my 8BA,the only snag is the remote I,m fitting has come off a vehicle fitted with a Ford V8pilot engine and the bulb/sender fitting is different and wont screw into the 8BA,i need to make an adapter or maybe cut a thread on the bulb( I don't really want to cut the head hole ) and need to know the thread size to cut, anybody know the thread size of the hole in the head of my 8BA,the engine has been totally rebuilt and is ready for its first proper run and I need to know whats going on with the engine . many thanks Jim.

Re: 8BA water temp, sender thread size
The 8BA temperature sender thread size is 3/8" NPT (national pipe thread).

Might check NAPA for mechanical temp senders. They come with adaptors that fit right in. Put two (one in each head) in mine a coulple of years ago.

If you have acess to the adapter used in MGB, MGA for the Smiths temp gauge bulb it would be worth trying

Re: 8BA water temp, sender thread size
Pilot motors have a 5/8UNF thread in the heads for the water temp senders. USA type motors tend to have 3/8 NPT as stated.

Re: 8BA water temp, sender thread size
bndouglass: You could cut and solder two brass fittings together similiar to what is shown. One end would have the ID gauge size thread size and the other end would have the OD head size thread size. Shown are early heads on an 8BA.
