Default Wood bed in '29 pickup

I'm removing the plywood bed in my 1929 Pickup. I can't figure out how they got this piece into the bed. I removed all the bolts but the plywood is under the side lips? How would I remove the wood panel?

The wood is sandwiched between the lips on the bedsides and the crossmembers,so removing the bed won't do anything. What I think you are going to find is that somebody cut the plywood slightly wider than the opening, slid it in and pushed it to one side until it dropped into place. Then slid it in the other direction until the lip covered the edge of it.I bet if you knock it to one side you will expose the edge of the plywood. Then just push it up and out.

Thanks, I think you have the right solution, I agree removing the bed won't do any good!
The next issue is once removed the new slats should be able to be installed from the top, correct? Alan

I've actually seen plywood installed like that in beds. The correct wood and bed strips will all get installed from the top.The center plate that goes over the crossmember will just lay on the crossmember until you get the wood in to bolt it up too.

Great !
I'm not using the center plate, so just wood & metal strips.....Won't be original but works for me.
