Not necessarily. Back in the '60's I had the job of replacing one of these with a reman. For some reason I had to pull the head, and found a crack running from valve seat to cylinder. The boss sent it back to the rebuilder. They sent what supposed to be another engine but I noticed it had the same pipe plug that I had ground down for clearance. So we pulled the head. Sure enough, it was the same engine. All they had done was peen the crack with a center punch!
