Default brake and clutch pedal alingment problem

Need help. The brake and clutch pedals in my 31 do not line up. The clutch pedal is about an inch and a half higher then the brake pedal. It's up against the back side of the floor boards. I bought a new clutch pedal stop from Brattens and it helped somewhat. I read an article some were on how to fix this, but I can't find it when I need it. Any help would be appreciated.

Were they evan from the factory? I see quite a few where the clutch pedal comes back more than the brake by an inch or so.

The stops wear on both the pedals and the housing.

They need to be welded up and filed to match. Or you can just put them on and not worry about their height.

Does your brake light go off as it should with the brake pedal in that position? Your brake rod return springs might be too weak to pull the brake pedal back into position. But I like Kevin's suggestion too.

First, be sure your brake pedal to cross shaft rod is adjusted correctly. The button at the rear of the rod which operates the stop switch should NOT touch the inside rear of the center cross member but have up to 1/16" clearance. The rod could be adjusted so long that it doesn't allow the pedal to come all the way up.

Once you've done that then the rest is wear in the clutch pedal as Kevin described.

As a final note, when I purchased my 28k mile original Fordor I was astonished that the clutch and brake pedals were WAY off. I looked under the car and could tell that the cotter on the pedal shaft collar had been changed. I removed it and the pin, removed the collar and rotated it 180 degrees and reinstalled everything. My pedals are now PERFECTLY level.
