Jesus, man. I don't think I recall him making any overtly political statements on here, but I didn't read every one of his posts.

Banned for life though?

I totally agree with you, but you have to realize that any infusion of politics into a forum such as this is toxic if left unchecked and must be eliminated.

It's sad how easily people are offended these days . If we say something they don't agree with rather then say something constructive like I'm sorry but I don't feel that way or would you mind not talking here about that subject we just shut the door and never hear what they have to say. this is the wedge that is tearing our country apart folks . So much for hearing from all sides. I don't know what was said but it seems there should be a better and healthier way do things if we are to remain a strong country. I love this land and this makes me sick to my stomach. Tim

I think it would be a good idea if Ryan would state the reason when a well respected member is banned. Not saying why only invites wrong speculation and does not serve as an example for others to not do the same offense.

It's not April 1st so I guess a detailed explanation from a administrator is in order. Charlie is one of the nicest guy's involved in this hobby and always willing to help someone out with advice or parts. If someone can't justify this action, maybe we should boycott this site until such and explanation is given. Even though I enjoy the information given, I can do without this site and figure things out other ways!

Charlie has rebuilt the distributors, carburetors and fuel pumps on my '34 and '37 Fords. They never ran better and his service was fairly priced and quick. I have also gleaned a lot of valuable information from him on this website. I sure hope that he can get back on it soon.

Agreed. Charlie has helped me with little parts for free, unsolicited. If politics was the only reason he was banned, I wonder what other forums he is on. It is self-destructive to cast off productive contributors to the forum. I think we need more of the story.

I have no idea what was said by Charlie, but he is obviously a well respected member of this forum. I would think if there was a problem a warning would be in order, but not a ban from the forum. There has to be more to this story?

Suspect it has nothing to do with politics but postings like this and others relating to it.

Probably do not belong in this Forum.

I have no clue as to why he was banned, but there must have been a reason that Ryan felt strong about (and I respect Ryan).

With that said, I know there are days when I post or comment in ways that are not totally politically correct - maybe too much coffee, maybe something that I think is funny when it probably isn't. Hopefully we see Charlie back on the Barn. He has done a lot of good work for me - and I'll continue to go to him.

I know he is banned, but I do not know for how long. Usually, someone is "Banned" for a week for the first offense, a month for the second, before being banned for life. I don't remember any previous offenses, so let's hope this is the first. I saw a post a couple of days ago he made that surprised me with the subject matter and the way it was stated. That post is no longer available, and it certainly wasn't the one quoted above.

As to Ryan explaining himself, I don't think that's going to happen, nor should it. If you think about it, the last thing we want is to get the forum bogged down with controversial, off-topic discussions. Ryan has tons of experience running these forums, and is very good at doing so. I suggest we defer to his better judgement in situations like this. These forums have rules; not many, but they are pretty specific. If you want to use the forum, abide by the rules. They are in our own best interests.

Without sounding insensitive, the knowledgeable folk on the Ford Barn are quickly moving on to a higher place. Can we really afford to ban anyone for life?

Perhaps a more tempered response now that everyone has had a day or so to sleep on things would be an idea.

I am totally shocked and flummoxed to hear this. I met Charlie and Alice a very long time ago at their flea market space at Hershey. I'm sure they don't remember the chance meetings over the years, or what I look like. I am not a big talker nor is there anything about my appearance that makes me stand out or for anyone to pay special attention to, but I have had the pleasure of dealing with Charlie a few times over the years, especially more recently with the project 60HP engine I'm working on. Charlie has been more than generous with his time and expertise on the fuel pump and carburetor and offers to help on many ways. In my dealings with Charlie he has always been the consummate gentleman. I cannot fathom or understand Charlie being banned, and permanently at that, from anything except perhaps Hell.

Doesn't make any sense. I've seen people get banned for a political comment before, but only for maybe a week. Maybe told Ryan something hurtful, although I can't imagine Charlie doing that to anyone.
I've dealt with him, and one of the most polite, generous and kind people I've seen.

Also, Charlie should be able to see our comments without logging in.

Wow. I’ve only spoken to him once or twice when he sold me some fuel line fittings. Seems everyone has only good things to say about him. I’m guessing it was something said in the thread about “security warning” or something of that nature where someone posted about a recent break-in into their garage. It was getting getting a little political in nature, but again not sure what was said or why he might have been banned.
In another forum I frequent they used to have a specific area for politics and religion, but un-benounced to me it had been removed, and in some other section/thread I had posted pics pertaining to a protest. Worst that happened was the pics/thread was removed and I got a warning. Hope he is able to come back as it would be shame otherwise.

Once again, I must agree with you in full.

I had been slapped (banned) many years ago and frankly, I'd deserved it.
I'd done my best to choose my words carefully since but suspect I stumble now and then.

I can't say I was ever mistreated nor cheated by Ryan. I suspect he'll be just as fair with Charlie.

Charlie is such a good person. Always treated me fair. I would like to know if this is true.
Cannot imagine a lifetime ban. I think in most cases a warning and a dealation of offensive post would be the way to go. Then again, it's not my ball and bat.

Me too. Agree completely. Once again, Tubman's good judgement and good sense shows.

If we did get an explanation from Ryan, there would be inevitable disagreements and rebuttals posted. We, and Ryan, don't need to go there.

Yeah, but necessary here. Americans, especially older Americans like most of us, easily start screaming at each other over political stuff. The moderator should nip that before it even gets started. We sure don't want to be screaming at each other on this forum.

Do you know something we don't? I don't think I've ever seen a political post from Charlie.

Guys, how about taking a break from this? Any of us that know Charlie, know he's a fine gentleman. What we do not know is what transpired to get him banned. Nor do we know how long...
Ryan is also a good guy and no doubt had a good reason for doing what he'd done.

So, my advice? Take a breath, sit back and wait for some facts.

I said something implicating a certain powerful political party and got a week’s worth of banishment, I think it was a week, so I won’t be mentioning what I think about any political issue. I’ll save that for another site. But permanent ban? Pretty harsh. Remember the “golden rule”, he who has the gold, rules.

.

Charlie has hopefully only lost his privileges AND prominence for as little as seven days, if HE & WE are that lucky. IF only seven days are in the cards, his smilin' face.....(could ya possibly beat a pair o' smiles like this pair?).....

.....COULD be back as early as 50 hours from now. That should be about enough time off for Charlie to accomplish some catchin'-up on projects, and then getting back to us on The 'Barn full-time.

stop blindly following the so called rules and who made them anyway thought that this was the land of free speech and open debate you may not like his opinion but he has a legal right to express it same as you and only through debate can you meaningly hope to bring about lasting change in this world censorship of and banning anything only serves to drive it underground and further ingrain it Wake up and worry about something important and in this world there are FOOLS that need to be told their FOOLS

Makes me wonder if there is a hidden "power behind the throne" pulling the strings? Censorship is alive and well these days!

First off I doubt he’s been banned for life, next I totally agree with Kube to take a break and see what transpires next. Last, thought this was an early Ford site! As Arron Rodgers has said over many years “Relax”. If you want to contact Charlie his phone number and email are part of the photo posted.

I saw it. It disappeared quickly. I do have to say that I was surprised and disappointed in it's content.

Tubman summed it up better than I would have . . . and I agree with his perspectives. Hopefully it is a short time in Purgatory and then he will be back with us.

Charlie is about as fine a gentleman as there is. If nothing else this post reinstates that. I hope Charlie is reading the now 4 pages of nothing but compliments and giving himself a pat on the back for the services he has provided. I hope when one day I am his age (not calling him old!) I can learn and accommodate as he has to us.
I am certain him being Banned (or Band) will not affect his reputation one bit, unlike others that have been Banned (Band)

Well said 35Fordtn … those people that choose to silence free speech have a bigger reputation problem than anyone they attempt to silence … 4 pages of response kinda says … he isn’t SILENCED …

You were "disappointed" in its content???

I'd like to think that you weren't the one who hit the 'REPORT' button to report his post...

Not sure what happened, and frankly, it is none of my business.

But, let us be clear, this website is Ryan's property. He sets the rules, and makes sure they are followed. As guests, we all had to register/agree to the rules, for the privilege of being able to post.
The talk here is old Fords (flatheads for this forum). Break the rules, you get the boot. No different than your own house on your own property. A guest misbehaves, you show him the door. You want freedom of speech, take it to any other forum where anything goes.

Just stay off the "band" wagon playing the tune someone's rights got trampled.

If any of you are okay with this:

Quote:
Let's square things away.....whether rural or urban in New York State all property tax
rates are high, cops are ham strung because of 'progressive' woke law makers who
gain office by pandering to where the voting 'blacks’' are. These same 'blocks' have invaded the sticks where I live. Friends have moved to Tenn. to get away...only to
find the "blacks' steadily moving in there as well.
Charlie ny
Well… I guess I invite you to leave the forum as well. I will not allow, host, or even recognize racists on my sites. Period.

Defending or accepting it is as bad as saying it. Disgraceful.
