Who is the vendor at Hershey who installs wells in fenders?
As the title says, can anyone remember the name & field location of the gentleman who sets up at Hershey and installs the wheelwells each evening?
Next question and my main reason for asking, does he (hopefully!) sell fenders outright? And finally, does he modify the wells to make them easier to R&R the wheel from the well? TIA! |

That sounds like a great project to watch, I'll try to get over there. Bob

Yes give him your fender at Hershey during the day and he will take it home and do it that night and you pick it up the next day. Not sure if you have to supply the well or not but should ask him first. I guess to be sure you should call the phone number I listed for him. I think he has been doing this at Hershey for at least 30 or more years. I am sure you could take your fender to his place any time and could pick it up in a day or two.

I did speak with Mr. Gift this morning and his space number is GBB 12-14. Unfortunately (for me at least) he does not have any fenders to sell. Thanks again everyone.

Re: Who is the vendor at Hershey who installs wells in fenders?
Vince, I purchased a welled fender from Will that was NOS but most fenders I have seen in the past year or two were fenders that someone has installed a repro well using a "hatchet"! I am working on a car now that the budget is not there for NOS welled fenders and his non-wells are needing a fair amount of work. You are correct in most people are probably wanting non-welled and I hate to see good non-welled "cores" being sacraficed for installing wells. I was hoping Mr. Gift had something already done.

Re: Who is the vendor at Hershey who installs wells in fenders?
I had a well installed in an early 28 fender by that guy several years ago. I dropped off the fender one day, and it was ready the next. It was impressive how well it was done, and the price was good. at that time, I had to supply the well, as the makers of repro wells were out of stock. I found an old stock one at another booth, and brought it to him and he installed it.

Re: Who is the vendor at Hershey who installs wells in fenders?
Hmmm..that gives me a thought - is there a market for trading a non-welled fender for a welled one?
I'm still bouncing around the idea of getting a welled passenger side fender; if there are folks who want an original non-welled one, I'd hate to alter mine and would rather see it go to someone who could use it in its original state. |

2nd, in this instance, the car I am restoring needs to have wells added because of a time in history, ...and not because of a trend. The car owner's mother painted a portrait of his car many years ago in a certain color combination and setting, and with dual sidemounts as her vision of what his car would look like when it was restored. Therefore the owner is restoring the car to match the mother's painting as a tribute to her. That IMHO makes this circumstance a little more unique for using a welled fender. |

I've advertised to trade even for a set of non-welled fenders, but no luck. No takers, I'm thinking of removing the wells from my two fenders, shouldn't be that hard to do. I'd leave them on, but it makes it hard to get in and out and afraid the doors will get dented with a good hit to one of the spares. |

Re: Who is the vendor at Hershey who installs wells in fenders?
I have had fenders welled by Mr. Gift the past two Hersheys. I supplied the wells, but I was asked upon drop-off if I needed him to supply one. This leads me to believe that he might have a source for wells. Oh, and the charge with my well...a very reasonable $75. An excellant job and 24 hour service.

Re: Who is the vendor at Hershey who installs wells in fenders?
I talked to the gentle man at Hershey on Thursday morning. He took home 15 fenders that needed wells installed on Wednesday night and brought them back to Hersey for the customers on Thursday morning. He did mention he had a relative to help him. lol

Only a few years back, the going rate was a meager 35. I guess demand is up.
Mr. Gift has made Packard bodies, so he is indeed "gifted". |
