Default Still sober

21 years today. This is NOT about me. I've taken an annual liberty for years to post my sobriety date, to remind and or inform that help is available. If you have or think you have an alcohol problem you can reach out through a local phone call or the internet. If you have an alcoholic in your life, they are sick with a disease. You can find help for yourself with a local phone call or the internet. I wish all a productive and uneventful day, Craig.

Thumbs down Re: Still sober

Addiction Is The Gift That Keeps On Taking.
In 1998 my ex-wife left the family to pursue
drinking full time.
Three daughters and one son from that marriage
lost their Childhood and had their Adult Lives
determined by their Addictive Mother who
started them drinking as early as 10 so she
would not have to drink alone.
Everything Was Lost To Addiction.

If you are an active addict - the Life
you take is not just your own.

Dear Craig ~ Thank you for your annual testimonial! You never know when your message hits home and recovery begins. Even though I’m now retired from the Drug Court, our success rate continues (with virtually the same staff) at 80% ~ during my 20 year tenure, we graduated over 500 individuals who met the five year sobriety standard, be it drugs or alcohol. So rewarding to encounter a graduate, a child or parent who has maintained their sobriety ~ and you are a living testimonial: God bless you, Sir!!

A little off topic but right at 51 years ago I laid down my cigarette addiction and quit a 3.5 to 4 pack a day habit, cold turkey. I still crave a cigarette every once in a while, but by the Grace of God, I have left them alone.

So nice to hear of someone winning the battle against addiction. Unfortunately I have two grown children who struggle with it and it truly is a family disease.

It somehow missed me but, I know the horrors. It consumed my dad, uncle and my two best friends.

My best to all that hold strong.

November 1969 for me. It took an overdose to get my attention and the Grace of God to still be here today. There are VICTORIES in life and I have used mine to encourage thousands. I ended up ministering in prisons as a Chaplain for over thirty years and still volunteer every week at the same prison I retired from 7 years ago.
Remember, your story is not about you.
Thanks for sharing... Chap

Lawson, same addiction that I gave up in 1980, and looking back, I'm so glad I did.

Thanks for your post. I didn’t drink till I was forty. I went from a couple of beers a day to ten in no time at all. I’m 71 and I haven’t had a drink in 18 months. I sure appreciate your journey.

Congratulations, I was able to quit in 1977 due to my wife making a bet that I couldn't quit for 6 months. I then realized that I had a serious drinking problem. I was determined to prove her wrong and with her help I was able to walk away from alcohol.

Like JM and Lawson, I quit smoking in 1980.At the price of cigarettes today You can easily justify buying a lot of old Ford parts or maybe a complete old Ford with the money you saved and still be healthy to work on these old V-8s.
