installing glass in a 37 Pickup.. Help needed
I'm to the point of installing the glass in my 37 Pickup and not having much luck. I have the original regulators. I actually have 2 sets. I set has tabs on the piece the window set in. these tabs are supposed to slide in the side felt pcs. the other set does not have the tabs.
I have new felt installed, the regulator with the tabs installed and cut a template out of cardboard to act as the glass. I figured out how to slide the glass in the door, front of glass down and rotate it to get it in the track. Problem is I can't figure out where the glass needs to be secured in the channel. Should the center of the glass be in the center of the glide channel?? Any help is appreciated. |

Re: installing glass in a 37 Pickup.. Help needed
The metal window channel should come off the regulator.
The regulator without the channel gets installed in the door. The glass gets installed into the metal channel with glass setting tape, outside the truck. The glass/channel assembly goes into the door and then you maneuver it onto the regulator rollers. I have a '36 pickup original glass that is still mounted on the metal channel. Will post a pic later of its location on the channel. Should be similar if not the same as your 37. |

Also interested in this. I am going to be doing this soon so I would also like to see where the glass is positioned on the channel.

If the channel is mounted in the door without the glass, you can also just set the glass down in the channel and gently roll the window up. Move the glass fore or aft to suit yourself. Then just reach up in there with a marker and mark the glass where it meets the end of the channel.
This is what I did on my '36 coupe.

Re: installing glass in a 37 Pickup.. Help needed
so after fighting with the 1st door and accomplishing breaking the brand new door glass I figured the best thing I could do was walk away... everything went smoothly following the measurments, slid the glass in and rolled it up. the glass was 1/2 inch short from sealing in the front side felt. took it back out, was able to remove the glass and make adjustments, while reinstalling it "crack"..... crap!!!

Re: installing glass in a 37 Pickup.. Help needed
My 37' cab has what I have heard refereed to as "smokers windows". These go to the top and slide forward to close completely. The intent was to have some window ventilation with protection from the elements. You mentioned you were not getting a seal on the front edge. You might want to take the regulators out and check the movement. Make sure you have the correct units. This job is a handful if you are learning as you go, go slowly. Good luck

Re: installing glass in a 37 Pickup.. Help needed
As banjoQ said these windows roll back a couple of inches and then down, this is acomplished by a curved groove in the regulator that lines up with a post on the glass channel. if you dont have this post glass can move back and forword. What I do is put the window in and right up in the closed position, a helper to hold this is great, then install the glass channel without the bedding tape, wind the regulator up, insuring the grove and post engage untill it's holding up the glass, mark the ends of the channel on the glass and this is the right position it needs to be pull it all out and put the bedding tape in the channel and hammer over the window.Sometimes a minor adjustment is needed to get it perfect. hope this helps.Tony.
