Default Re: Actual Car Value

I think the whole crux of this thread amounts to the condition of the car. If it is an average driver, you can replace it for 15K. But if it is a car that you have meticulously restored, it is worth many times that and needs to be insured for a high number. And as Mitch said, "restored" is not a level field, as I found out with my latest car. It depends on who restored it. Both of my Cars were restored and were the basis for where I would go from there. There is a drastic difference, were all the correct parts used? Were marginal parts reused? Regardless, it seemes that you would have a real hard time selling a fully restored car for what it cost to restore it.

I agree with Pete above. I look at it as a hobby so I put the value of my rigs at what they could bring in the marketplace. Like he mentioned, a person could be out spending money on another hobby that may not be as rewarding as Model A and leaves you with nothing of value in the end except some pleasure for awhile.

You bring back a LOT of memories, Carl,
I still have Pat's Radio Flyer, she LOVED that thing! I once restored & painted the inside, only. Now it needs it again. It still has the original tires, but once, she was hauling green firewood, & one wheel rim spread out, like. PHHSST! Took 3 of us to "roll" the DANGED tire back on the wheel! It was like a CIRCUS, as we had slathered the whole wheel & tire with PAM! I'm gonna' use PAM when I mount my used 16" spare tire on Vermin. You think it will pop OFF when I air it up!
