Default beneath the'31 PU floor mat is???

Guys, is there any type of matting directly beneath the rubber floor mat within a '31 PU?

How about some type of seal around the pedals / steering column? I do have the authentic metal plate.

Thanks!

Beneath the floor mat is the floor board and beneath that is the transmission.

It could have possibly been the 'Window Sticker'

A hinge and a door to maintain the battery?

Well, one hopes.

Ford only sealed around the edges of the floor boards and that column & pedal plate had the felt pad. They didn't use a jute mat pad yet like they did in later years. The throttle pedal rod had a grommet that was tacked to the floor boards. The battery inspection cover plate and the transmission cover plate weren't sealed. I guess they figured that the floor mat would seal all that. Some folks use the lever boots and some don't. They do help keep the dust out.

You bring to mind yet another question... did the brake lever originally have a boot?

Not sure, but I seem to think the very early '28's with the brake handle on the left side had some kind of a boot. All the later A's had no boots on brake handle and shift tower.
They sell them and I use one on my emerg. brake but not on my shift tower. The rubber mat is made close around it so that keeps a lot of dust out. The felt padding piece around the pedals worked for me for about a year, then it was worn out with big gaps around the pedals. Replaced it once and same thing happened. I give up.

The felt may need some type of preservative applied to the edge areas that are exposed. Felt can deteriorate over time. Perhaps some type of oil or grease would help. Leather might have been a better seal than felt but that's only speculation.

Thanks rotorwrench, I may try some of that "flex-seal" or other types of coating on the felt padding. Sorry Kube, didn't mean to hijack your thread.

Kube are you restoring this model A with the same quality as your 39 and 40 restorations or are you just doing a driver? Would love to see some pictures.

I'll try to get some photos posted ASAP.
No restoration at all. Just putting together a truck that's been stored in pieces for over fifty years.
I'm having a lot of fun, learning a lot and must tell ya, much less stressful than doing a full (proper) restoration.
