Spark Plugs
I thought I read somewhere that a 292 with points and a resistor should use non resistor plugs. Seems the recommended plug for this engine is Autolite 46 which is listed as a resistor plug. What about wires? Resistor or not. I've read quite a few discussions about plugs but have not seen this mentioned.

Re: Spark Plugs
Copper plugs will offer the best performance but not longevity. If you have a radio/or install pointless ignition in the future, you'll want resistor-type plugs and wires. Autolite 46 is the standard plug for Y-blocks. If your engine has been modified or runs on the hot side, try Autolite 45s. NGK 2438 plugs are recommended as a substitute for Autolite 45.
I wanted the Autolite 45 for my 55 Tbird. Walmart raised the price, so I bought NGK 2438 from RockAuto. Later, I was looking through my garage cabinets for parts and found a box of Autolites. |

Re: Spark Plugs
Thanks for your reply. I had the AM radio repaired and am going to reinstall. For now I plan to keep the points and standard coil. I guess I need to get some resistor wires also.

If a FYB 292, the wires are unique as they are held in place by brackets/insulators that will only accept a 7mm wire. You can buy them pre-assembled (for easier install) or A 7mm wire (with 8mm core) kit from PERTRONIX (good quality). If you want a non-resistor plug, search for NOS (New Old Stock) BF-82 (FYB heat range) AUTOLITE (FORD) or later MOTORCRAFT.
