I will look in my Ford Manuals at my shop in the morning BUT I think it may be closer to 100-125 #ft.

I may be wrong BUT I do not think the axles and nuts will stand 212 #ft.

I go real tight with a 1/2 in. breaker bar and then go a little more until I can install a cotter key. I usually will tighten them again after I have driven the car several miles and then install the cotter key. Leave the hub caps off untill the cotter key is in place.

Again, Just my opinion.

The 'V8 Times', Sept/Oct 98 Issue, pages 46 and 48, quotes several Ford Service Letters and later corrections.
The final direction on tightening axle nuts reads: "tighten nut 356074-S to 200 to 220 foot pounds; then continue tightening to the next castellation providing final resultant torque does not exceed 275 foot pounds."

I Stand Corrected,

All of my V-8 informatiion is at my shop and I was going from the information I had here at home. Model A Ford instructions are fro 125 # ft. Sense they use the same size threads as the later axles, I was thinking the later V-8s would be something simular.

If Ford says to torque to 200-220 # ft then that is what I would do.

My Dad, an early dealership mechanic said with tongue in cheek " tighten it as tight as you can get it then go one more round"!!!
