1938 - 1940 frame swap
I understand that '38 and '40 frames are 'similar', but are the crossmembers, transmission mount brackets, etc., all the same? Will a '40 drivetrain bolt straight into a '38 chassis, and the body just drop straight on top?
Thanks in advance. |

I believe you will have to rework some fender pan bolt holes and the front crossmember to accept the 40 forked brace. Drive train will work fine. There will be some slight modification required to use the 40 pedal bracket and linkage.

Re: 1938 - 1940 frame swap
Thanks guys. JimTN, on the pedals, is the main difference in the clutch pedal and linkage? I think I have some '39 pedals and bracket, if they're easier to use, although would that then cause problems with the column shift linkages?

Re: 1938 - 1940 frame swap
The 39 deluxe and 40 Fords have a different ,deeper front crossmember than 39 standard and earlier frames that had fan up on generator.
