Hand lettering/sign on truck/Michigan
Can anyone advise if they know a good painter for hand lettering a business name on the doors for a pick up? We have a business owner's vehicle in our garage in Northern Michigan outside Traverse City and need some quality lettering for the doors.
Bob's Model A Ford Garage Thanks!!

There is a fellow by the name of Jim Brand that pin stripes many of the fine point cars. He is outstanding at this type of thing. Send me a private message and I'll see if I can find his phone number.

I am good friends with Jim. I sent him a message about this, but haven't heard yet. I was hoping someone in Michigan had found good luck with a painter closer to us in the north. Thank You!!

Re: Hand lettering/sign on truck/Michigan
Bob,
The best sign painter I knew of in the area passed away about 15 years ago. The day of a good sign job for a fifth of Kesslers is long gone. If I remember correctly his first name is Bob and he owns Lautner Irrigation. He is into Model A's and has contacts with the tractor group from Buckley. He is a heck of a good guy with deep roots in the Traverse area and may be of some help to you. I wouldn't rule out a student or instructor at Interlochen. There is a wealth of talent there. I read that a Model A club had an event where a teacher taught a few students how to use a pinstripe brush and were cranking out quality work. Best of luck, Tom |

Re: Hand lettering/sign on truck/Michigan
I am in Iowa but I am in the graphics biz. A little advice guys who use a brush are disappearing fast but there is a difference between a stripper and a someone who does lettering. I the thirty years I have been in the industry I have only known of one person who could do both, these days it is easier to find the stripper they are still in demand where sign painters can't compete against printers, which you don't want. Make sure you see examples of their work and have them provide a proof for your approval before they paint even if they charge extra. The issue with paint and prep is more of a warning than telling you what you need to do but when I have had stripping done with bulletin enamel it held for years but one day it decided to fall off in chunks it happened twice and need to fix it for the third time, not sure what the solution is but bring it up to your painter.

Bob From Northport ....................
If you are not, especially, wanting a hand painted sign. A sign shop can make your sign, on the computer, and furnish you with a vinal sign, much cheaper than a hand lettered one. Personally, I like the hand lettered ones, the best. MIKE |
