Does a 35 look like this? Fella gave me this when I bought a 39 tranny (no good I'm afraid) from him.

I believe the book Mike is referring to is the 1935-36 Ford Book puplished by the Early Ford V-8 Club of America. You can go to their website and order the book on line. Definitely a must have book if you are working on a 35 or 36 Ford passenger car.

Re: 1935 Ford spare tire cover info needed
My spare tire cover won't fit on a 600-16 and I have two of them. I think the raised ridge around the white wall is the problem.

Mine fit on a 600-16 but not 650-16. That is the tire cover will fit the 650-16 but you can't put the face plate in as well. It would be a lot of work to weld a wider lip on all the way around, but I would like to use the 650-16 tyres

Thanks to all who replied......unless I can find the wider band, '35 ragtops method might workout to be the best choice for me.............

Re: 1935 Ford spare tire cover info needed
I recently had the problem were the band for my ’35 spare tire a 600-16, would not slip over the tire enough to hold the cover in place. Even without the cover in place, I could not force the band to sit any lower on the tire.
I don’t know what the “Book” width should be for a 1935 600-16….but the band that did not fit had a width of 6 ¼” and the band that does fit and comes over the cover and holds it in place has a width of 6 5/8”. To be honest, I don’t know if either is correct for ‘35 Hope this helps, Jim

The 5 1/4" one is 33-34 . Does it have a stainless band around it's outer center bead ? If yes it's 33 and if it is just the raised bead it's 34 .

Re: 1935 Ford spare tire cover info needed
Here is the correct profile for 35 spare tire cover ring. It was designed for a 6:00 x 16 bias ply tire.

I did go measure an original 36 ring and it is exactly 5 3/4 inches wide. Last edited by Barn Junk; 08-26-2013 at 08:46 PM. |

Re: 1935 Ford spare tire cover info needed
Barn Junk, The drawing is a Ford Motor Company drawing from 1935 and it reflects the allowable tolerences for the band when it is in the extended and contracted position. I'm sorry that it isn't much help to you.
