1949 50 Swinging Eye
I was out visiting an old car friend in Arizona who is into 1940s-50s Buicks/Pontiacs and he has a new (in the box still) headlight fixture that he picked up as part of a parts swap years ago. It was apparently an aftermarket center headlight made for 1950 and 1949 Ford passenger cars. He called it a "Swinging Eye". He is considering selling it, and want's to know what something like that might be worth. It appears to have a bunch of wires and cables in the box that allow it to somehow be attached to the steering system to allow the light to move when the steering wheel is turned. He is not a computer guy, so I thought I would ask here and let him know. Thank you.

Re: 1949 50 Swinging Eye
I remember seeing these back in the day. I think that some states banned their use if they were movable and others frowned on the use of a third headlite.

Re: 1949 50 Swinging Eye
If your leg is in a cast and is stationary, does that mean you don't have a leg? It has the light in the center of the grille, but it is in a fixed position. Got it??

I bought one back in the 70's. I think it cost around $10. then.

Re: 1949 50 Swinging Eye
Just because he has a light in the center of the grille does not mean he has a 'swinging eye' ( the subject of the first post ) Get it??

Re: 1949 50 Swinging Eye
The correct name for the center light is a "Cyclop" and it can be fixed or the type mentioned in this thread. I have one of the movable type still in the box that was mfg. by Alloy Mfg Co in Chicago, Il. It looks like it would be more trouble than it is worth to try to use it as made, thus, my son put his in a fixed position. It is not an "approved" Ford accessory and would cost points on the concourse, although it does look neat. I attached the installation instructions for any curious minds.
