1949 mercury truck information

Hello,
Seeking answers to some questions about 1949 Mercury trucks, asking for a friend....

1)I believe they all used ford (not mercury) engines and they were all V8s, yes?
2)same for transmission?
3)Were the chassis identical?
4)Were all the sheet metal panels the same, that is fenders, bed, hood, cab, running boards (except for tailgate and trim pieces with Mercury script)?
5) Are the Mercury chrome pieces being reproduced?
6) Is there anything in the vin number designating it as a mercury?
Are there any other differences between Mercury and Ford trucks not covered above (for example Parking lights, Speedometer and badges inside and out) ?

I've been told the Mercury trucks had Ford engines. All V8 , at least until the mid fifties. Chrome or stainless trim on the front fenders and the park lights. I forget which but one has an extra bar in the grille. Mercury horn button. No script on the tail gate of my 49 but I acquired a panel out of another Mercury truck, not sure what vintage, that has Mercury right on the panel.

I have read that some had the Merc engine.
A Canadian friend that should know bobbled that.
Here in the states after the ohv V8 came out the F 600 could only be had with the 254 flathead 6 because the V8s were all too tall for the new design cab.
I think it was F600.

A Canadian friend doubted that, About the Merc engines in the M1.
I once owned a Canadian Pontiac.
It was a a ‘62 Chevy chassis, the X frame type, 6 cylinder 235, power glide, Chev wheels, Pontiac body.
It was a Stratochief. Looked like a Catalina on the outside.
When I was still in Minnesota , about 1960, I serviced a ‘50 Pontiac that was a Chevy with a Pontiac flathead six engine. Don’t remember what it was called.
