Re: airshow pics
Love those Universal Carriers and CMP trucks. We don't see many over here in the US.

Re: airshow pics
What kid of plane is that; looks kinda like an SR-71. Ya know, I think that those guys restoring the military vehicles are on to something. Just think; no shiny paint or chrome to worry about, and upholstery so basic anyone could do it.

Re: airshow pics
The aircraft is a B-1B, known as the "Bone". Powered with four flatheads...

Re: airshow pics
The old blackbirds got to be too expensive to operate. The B1B is a lot newer but the fuel mileage isn't a whole lot better. You gotta love those big round motors. Looks like a 3350.

Re: airshow pics
Yep-they certainly did. In fact, we would launch a KC-135 tanker ahead of the SR71 to refuel her after takeoff.

Re: airshow pics
Back in the '50's a B-36 flew low over the farm once. Those aircraft had six 28 cylinder radial engines. 4360 cu. in. each. I will never forget that sound.
In addition the B-36 had four Jet engines that were used for climb and high altitude cruise. Six turnin' and four burnin' Nothin' like the sound of an old radial. A flathead is a close second though. |
