37 bumpers rechrome
I got a price on rechroming. $1000.00 for both. Just wanted some input on repop, or rechrome. What kind of quality are the repop. Thanks Bruce

Re: 37 bumpers rechrome
Many years ago I had the bumpers for my 40 wagon chrome plated, and at that time it cost me $400 each. This was copper, nickel, chrome with show quality prep. So $1000 for a pair today doesn't sound out of bounds if the work is top quality.
The repro bumpers are soft mild steel which bends easily. |

Re: 37 bumpers rechrome
I would worry about the quality of the steel (and the chrome) used with the repros.

Re: 37 bumpers rechrome
For the extra cost, i went with a more show quality rechrome. Generally you'll see a real difference in the quality of the reflections as compared to repros with lower quality chrome formula and application.

Re: 37 bumpers rechrome
In my opinion, the repro bumpers I'm familar with are just about okay. I can spot them from 20 feet, and you really don't want to bump anything with them. The originals are made of a good quality spring steel, not sure what the repros are made of, but they bend easily. I would much rather have good originals, and rechromed if necessary for show.
