Default Diode Cutout Relay question

Helping a friend with his '30 Tudor, just need a quick answer did a search and didn't really find what I was looking for..

Do you have to polarize a diode cutout on a newly rebuilt generator? He had one re-done and is not showing a charge on his ammeter. It did before. I know on a stock point cutout you need to. Tim's Tudor has a known good original ammeter. We did check the connections they are clean and tight. Ammeter shows discharge with headlights on, brake light on, etc. as normal.

We didn't want to mess up his cutout relay thought I'd ask first. Possible maybe his cutout is bad?? Will check things with a voltmeter in the next couple days when we have more time and report back....

Thanks.

This the instructions from fun projects. They make cutouts with the diode. I hope this helps

You don't polarize the cutout you polarize the generator.

Jumping across the cutout for 1 second to put 6 volts to the generator is all you need to do.

If you have John Regan's voltage regulator cutout, then remove it, put the output wire to the generator stud for one second, remove the wire, then reinstall the EVR cutout.

Tom I'll ask my friend where he got his cutout I think he mentioned it was from Bratton's.

Do they source their diode cutouts from the fellow you mentioned?

You'd have to ask if it's just the basic diode cutout, or is it the electronic voltage regulator cutout. I never looked to see if Bratton's sells both, and I'm away from home for a couple days.
