Default 81A block markings

I always thought that flathead blocks were unmarked prior to the 59 series... Cleaned the grease off the back of the block out of my '40 and found this... learn something everyday. The block also has the raised diamond on the front, for whatever that's worth.

I don't think that is Canadian, Canadian blocks have the id cast in front of # one cyl.

I also have the same markings but in stead of them being indented into the casting they are embossed and raised. No guess work as to what block it is.

Hi,
have a 81 a engine and it has a small diamond cast in the block just forward of the right cylinder head. The little diamond is only about 3/8 inch long.
My engine has two oil outlets in the left rear area. One points straght up and it has he oil pressure sender in it. The other dosn,nt have anything in it, but i suspect it is for an oil filter. The picture in the post has only one oil outlet.
Another stamped in mark is the letters bfg located in between the left cylinder head and the intake man.. The stamping is in the engine block. I dont have any idea what it reprersents.
Could any fordbarners shed more light on this engine?
Thanky you.

Al: The block I mentioned above also has the oblong diamond in the block same location as yours. All of the early Ford flat head block have two oil outlets, I would assume the first photo in this thread also has two, you can not tell from the photo angle. Ford stamped a lot of numbers and letter combinations in the surface under the intake manifold. The information to decipher some of the codes seems to be lost in a fire at the Rotunda building. The 81A block should have four Welsh plugs in the oil pan rails two on each side, it should also have a flat surface under the intake manifold, where as 41 and later blocks have a raised surface.
