Duffy
No 16's for me.
Yeah pinup models aren't really into tire changing!!LOL
Like I said mine only fail in the garage never on the road. I guess my car just "holds it" till we get home
Bob
It never cuts down on the fun, just adds to the adventure!

I know it won't help you but many of us have had the same problems. And yes I used flaps (wider than liners) with the same results. The tubes seem porus as they loose air but a soapy wayer test comes up with no leaks.

I believe the tubes are white on the inside and black on the outside!
After work I'll use my ShrinkRay and crawl down the valve stem and check for you, OK?

What we need is the good old American made RED tubes.

I've had the same experience as Mike, in that I've had tubes loose air, but soapy water showed no signs of a leak.

use the smaller rim flap but first make sure there are no tiny metal stickers in your rims that will pinch the tubes. My new firestones and tubes have been flawless since 2001.

Yeah Red tubes
Al
I believe the tubes were of a higher quality 12 years ago. This seems to be a recent problem
Yes 2001 was 12 years ago.

Maybe its time the retailers stop selling them. I had same problem with 3 of them, I would be more than willing to pay extra for good old "MADE IN AMERICA" products especially when my life depends on it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tiny, I guess you are right, it does add to the adventure. I went from having no jack in the car to having 2 ! I predict that more and more Barners will be raising Hell about tubes as they encounter the current quality. I'm not a fan of the 16 inch wheels but if this keeps up I might be shopping for some. I drive my car a lot and am tired of swapping tubes and worrying about it. I think I'll get a cold beer and stop worrying for the night anyway.

I bought new firestones and tubes 6yrs. Ago and not yet mounted them, do I have problems awaiting me in the future? Should I keep my old tubes?

Are you tubes stored with enough air to fill out the shape? I've had new tubes develope cracks at the folds, then rip open as soon as they are aired up.

Robert
I believe this is a recent problem in the last year or so.
If you want you can send me those old tubes and I will properly dispose of them!

Hmm? Cycle tubes never though of that. Those Pirelli heavy duty tubes with brass stem are intriguing, but the sizes are all wanky.
Would the 120 90 work?

I purchased 5 new metal stem tubes from Brattons last fall. They have been holding air since November and had about 500 miles put on and good so far. I used to bust tires as a summer job and always used a healthy amount of talc between the tire and tube. I used the thin and narrow rim liners but ran my hands along all the surfaces of the rim checking for burrs, and I filed a couple down and put a dab of paint over the spot I knocked down. Also air the tube up to about 10-20psi, then deflate, then air it up all the way to make sure the tube isn't pinched or twisted. Good luck!
