1932 Sedan firewall.
On a '32 firewall there are a row of holes that I would like to identify if possible. They are 1/4" diameter and six in number. They are on the front face just tucked up under the cowl lip and spaced around the firewall with about 6" between them. If you followed up the line of rivets that attach one of the firewall 'feet' these are a continuation of that line and curve over then back down towards the other foot. Hope that makes sense.
My firewall is bare and removed from the car so have no clue as to what they are for? I have tried looking in a number of books but they are always either in shadow or too glossy to see what they are used for. Thank you. |

Re: 1932 Sedan firewall.
Sounds like those are the ones used to attach the firewall pad to firewall with the special shoulder screw headed bolts

Ah. That would make a lot of sense. Thank you very much. One of the downsides of starting with removed parts!

Re: 1932 Sedan firewall.
'32 firewalls are absolutely riddled with holes, because all have all the holes for every version...you will discover holes for both B and V8 throttle linkage, B damper, etc., and a mysterious hole that I believe is for the power brake/clutch stuff that was never released.

Re: 1932 Sedan firewall.
I've discovered there are rather a few! What did the factory blank the unused ones off with? Conventional grommets?

Re: 1932 Sedan firewall.
The small holes, like the ones for gas pedal shafts, were blanked by the insulation behind them. Control and wiring holes are complicated...I have a chart somewhere sorting them out. Some were adapted for B-V8 differences by different grommets. I don't remember if any of those were totally blanked.
Easiest aftermarket hole to spot is the one to fit a Chrysler 392...some of those cars must have been a bit drafty. |

The Bob Drake catalog has a kit for firewall grommets, and there is a drawing showing what goes where. http://store.bobdrake.com/19firemcabru.html

Talk about holes, this is what I have, and how I figured out what was what. I sent this image to a 32 expert.

Re: 1932 Sedan firewall.
Hello I have two pristine unmolested firewalls and after close exaination of both , the holes that are non stock henry holes are as follows: A D E G H I J K L M N Q R S T U V On the RH side B C are early and B C F are late these should have crimped in "D" nuts. Yours is the late 3 hole style. On the LH side W & X are for the firewall padding so most of the extras on drivers side look to be small drilled holes and these would need to be welded up and ground flush. on the RH side the (4) large holes A & D were for hot water heater hoses and would need small patches or flat washers welded and ground flush. the firewall is fairly thick and if you use a mig (wire) welder this is a fairly easy fix to makeback to factory stock appearance. Hope this helps and good luck with your project.
