Which carb is best for multi carb setup
I need some input , I am wanting a tri power set up and I have on hand some 94 Holley model 59 and some 91-99 Carbs , is there and noticeable difference as to performance and reliability ?
Thanks , Fordestes |

Re: Which carb is best for multi carb setup
Thanks Kahuna , I kinda thought so . although the designs changed a little through the years , I see where there is a lot of interchangeability, I just wanted to make sure.

Re: Which carb is best for multi carb setup
Check them on your manifold it can matter. Sometimes the fit is too tight. Chap

Re: Which carb is best for multi carb setup
Any of the 94's should fit any dual manifolds. Some triples have the carbs spaced closely together enough so 94's won't fit without some modifications. 97's will fit fine. I think the Offenhauser manifolds are the offending ones while Edelbrock's can use either. I don't know about the other brands. I found this out the hard way when I found a "4-in-a-row" Weiand for a hemi. I had 4 94's all set to go and they just wouldn't fit. Sometimes you can get by by grinding off the boss for the screw in the center of the bowl, but I don;'t think that's desirable at all.

Re: Which carb is best for multi carb setup
Setting the float level is much easier on the '97s, and they don't have the power valve problems. And with the external accelerator pump link, they just look cooler.
Notice that by putting the carbs on 2" risers I was able to invert the progressive linkage; That allows in-line fuel through banjo fittings, which is neater, and the ability to retain the hand throttle, which comes in handy from time to time. |

Re: Which carb is best for multi carb setup
Looks good dralston, I have a few 48's and 97's but I need to put the Holly carbs to work, I was mainly wondering if there are differences as to flow etc. so I may mix the 59's with the 91-99"s if need be ,I am saving the 97's and 48's for the blown engines and a quartet on my Edelbrock 4 deuce set up.

Re: Which carb is best for multi carb setup
All Ford/Holley 94 type carbs flow the same CFM from 1939 through 1953 (8BA). In 1954 they switched to a 1" venturi (was 15/16") for the new OHV 239 Y-Block (EBU carb model). And again in '55 to 1 1/16' for the 272 y-Block. I believe the 1 1/16" carbs (ECG model) flowed approx. 200 CFM. Also I believe the Stromberg 97's flowed about 150 CFM.

Re: Which carb is best for multi carb setup
Thanks scicala, That is what I was wanting to know along with the fact about the external vent and the fan blowing fuel everywhere, I was reluctant to mix carbs on a muliti carb application, this just cleared up a lot of un knowing and makes things a lot easier to put together.
