manifold cooker
Hi all,
I would like to put on a manifold cooking tour next year. To that end I looked at the vendors as I remember seeing a cooker that you could attach to your manifold. Well I just looked and I didn't see it so am wondering what you all use to cook when you drive? Ideas and pictures welcome-preferably pictures. Thanks, Mike

Re: manifold cooker
I have one that I hate to say I've never used. Got it as a Christmas present a few years ago. I'll look at it when I get home and let you know where it came from.

Re: manifold cooker
Check with our friends at Snyder's... appears to be a nice unit, stainless steel.

Re: manifold cooker
A group of us have tried the stainless manifold cooker a couple times while on road trips. We have not had good success. There is not enough heat transfer from the manifold to the cooker as there is not enough contact surface.
One gent from our group formed the bottom surface of the cooker to a manifold and it worked much better. I think he used an old manifold as an anvil/buck and pounded down on the base of the cooker to stretch the metal to better conform. For those of us that did not modify our cookers; in all cases, the cooker worked better as a "warmer". Regardless of actual success, we had lots fun every time we have tried it. There is a cookbook offered for manifold cookers as I purchased one. I believe I purchased it about 8 years ago. Good Day! Last edited by Dave in MN; 11-06-2018 at 09:42 AM. |

Re: manifold cooker
Just drive a couple of miles with your timing fully retarded until the exhaust manifold glows RED

Re: manifold cooker
Our club did some cooking on a couple of tours with good results. None of us used one of the premade cookers. We used our wife’s meatloaf pans rapped in foil and wired it to the manifold I personally cooked pork roast with vegetables. It took about 4 hours for the meet and 2 hours for the veg. It did make a mess of the fire wall but I was delicious.

Re: manifold cooker
A number of years back, perhaps 12-15, our club did a manifold cooking tour and it was filmed by Chicago channel 11, "Wild Chicago". The video is about 5-8 minutes long and quite entertaining.... I even ended up with a speaking part! Most people wired something wrapped in foil. I used a steel bread pan and cooked (Warmed-up) a can of beef stew. That worked great. Others actually cooked a full meal, as they had done such previously. The book, 'Manifold Destiny' is available form the vendors.

Re: manifold cooker
Eons ago, when I lived in Tidewater Virginia the club took a tour and cooked on the way. Aluminum foil (several layers) cooks a wonderful beef and potatoes dinner. Wrap it securely.
I hope to have my A on the road next spring to do it again. |

Re: manifold cooker
Don't forget to wash that meal down with some refreshing mechanics wine.

Re: manifold cooker
I've seen pictures of those manifold cookers but of course, we can't use them on a RHD car. The spark advance rod crosses the manifold just behind the distributor. The best way for us to get something hot is to the route some of the coolant through a coiled tube in a container of soup or stew.
