Default 41 jerking on take off.

41 tonner. V8 starts and runs smooth. You can not take off smoothly in reverse, 1rst,2nd.
Truck wants to buck,if you stomp the gas in second she lights the tires up.
Rebuilt carb with a good kit as recommended on this fourm. Pump rod in middle pos.
Set distributior up on krw unit. The tensioner on it is tighter then snug?
I'm good with model As and Ts but this new stuff I figured I should ask for advice.

Sounds like your clutch needs to be backed off a bit.

What size clutch are you using? Believe the 11 inch is a little more prone to this.

I don't have a clue on clutch size. It was engaging off the floor,I adjusted it to have a inch of toe play....maybe that did it.

A clutch that wants to grab, rather than slip is often the victim of being wet with oil. Sorry to say.

I remember a few thousand years ago, in the early 50s'. My Old Man had a car with an oily clutch . It was in the middle of winter and we did not have a heated work area. He pulled the car up against the tree. opened the inspection cover and poured alcohol on the clutch plate to clean off the grease, In gear while the car was running. I asked him if it would ruin the clutch plate. He said it is already screwed up, so it wont matter and it could make it to spring. He said He could buy a new clutch plate but then dinner would be a bit sparse for a few days. I told him that I thought he made a wise decision.

Update. Truck had sat maybe 3-5years in a garage 100 feet from salt water. I adjusted the toe play 2" now. Much better then I got out and run her about 40mph now you can almost idle off on a start. Drove her 10 miles. Must have been some rust on the flywheel. Now there's the slightest miss at half throttle, but she's throwing a yellow spark. One thing at a time.

Been sitting awhile so may have sticky valves. Poor some Marvel MO down the carb at idle until she starts smokin'. And pour a pint in the gas tank. Drive about 20-30 miles and the valves should work much better. It's worked for me.

Thats good advice from 39 topless only do it above idle about 1000 rpm, pour the MMO in until it nearly dies then let it speed back up and do it agin. You can probably smooth the clutch out by running the truck against a tree or solid object and with it in high gear slip the clutch to burn the oil or whatever off the clutch & pressure plate. It doesn't take long, just 15 or 20 seconds.

I knew I forgot something. MMO I did put it down the cylinders when I picked the truck up and a little in the tank. Truck will get it down the throat today! Thanks

I would not run that truck up against a tree to slip the clutch. If I wanted to slip the clutch, I would hold the truck with the brakes and not mess up the front.

If you mess up the bumper by pushing against tree bark then you have a cheap repo bumper that doesn't deserve being on an old ford.

Beautiful truck and love that setting. I wonder what the price of a gallon of leaded gas is at that pump.

That would depend on the year. If it during the war you would have to have stamps. Farmers could get them.

Very cool tonner you got there. I have burned clutches in by aiming up a hill and slipping it in high gear. No bumper damage and you can keep testing the results as you go. Nothing else looks like those 7.50 x 17s on the split trim with hubcaps. Bob Seeger would say it's "Sittin' way up firm and high".....

"Points of her own".... And you know what's funny Mark is the other night my wife was off island visiting her sister so I had a few pops and started watching some outlaw country videos from the '70s. Then I remembered your tag line and typed in about the ragged ol truck, Billy Joe Shaver. That lead me in a whole direction of cool stuff. Just never know where a truck forum is gonna take you. Very cool, thanks....
