Default A little off-topic.. Shop lighting

I am going to upgrade some pretty old T-12 flourescents to the newer T-8s including the electronic ballast ones.

I would like the most natural light tubes. Now looking at the 5000 which I think have a tint of blue.

What would you recommend to get that "natural sunshine" look?

Then, who has the most Lumens tubes?

TIA..

Larry

heres what i know from experience:

4200K is the yellowish glow of incandescent 60w light bulbs in a house - ya know the normal hue for the last 100+ years

4700K is pretty much pure white, sometimes called daylight - doesnt look very daylight to me but WILL BE YOUR BRIGHTEST BULBS.

you go higher than 5000K its going to get more and more blue tinted till 10000K is straight purple.

lower than 4200K is getting more and more yellow till straight yellow like bug lights.

I replaced my flourescents with LEDs from Costco. A bit harsh, but much brighter. I like them.

Joe..

Thanks for the post. It's somewhat confusing.. to me.

Does the "two pack" mean four bulbs or actually two fixtures with two bulbs each?

Lightbulb Re: A little off-topic.. Shop lighting

Larry,

Lighting design depends on the task & surface area you want to illuminate.

Go to a home improvement store & get an open lense parabolic troffer
fixture in a 2 ft. x 4 ft. size that you can either mount to framing or
hang by chain depending on your ceiling.

Then - buy some different bulbs & try them under working conditions
to see which type you are comfortable with.

For the past 50 years or so, it was noted that for less human eye strain, an excellent combination always highly recommended in a 2 bulb fixture for "Task" lighting is one (1) Daylight Bulb and one (1) Cool Light Bulb which blends in the different bulb kelvin temperatures and frequencies ............. in a four (4) bulb, fixture, (2) & (2) is recommended.

Larry, I think it means two fixtures, each with two bulbs. They appear to be identical to the fixtures I bought in-store a few months ago. I believe the price was around $45 each, so the $80 regular price for a two-pack sounds about right.

I also have a couple of the Home Depot LED shop lights. No complaints about any of them so far.

I use these as well. 3 in a U shape - they work great. Especially useful in the cold - Instant on.

There is a whole forum dedicated to this on GarageJournal (sister of FB)

I had just installed all new lighting in my garage (6 2-tube fluorescent fixtures) before I knew about the LED fixtures. (#$%@*&) Can't justify doing it all over again!

As light burn out around the House, garage, yard and car I have been replacing with LED's (just replaced the Town Sedan's dash light. Yeah, no more burnt fingers ).
I have been real happy with the LED's, especially when replacing fluorescent bulbs.(instant on, no more blinking).

Thus is the way I went and I am very happy. It worked out to about $45 for each 4 foot light. $85 for a pack of 2. Wayne
