Re: Did I finally find a GEM?
Very nice. I do believe the mats are original but I wonder about the red oxide underneath. Neither of my 50's have that but having said that, this is the straightest club coupe I have seen!!

Re: Did I finally find a GEM?
Very nice find! My first car was this very same model in '62 and I paid $25 for it. Of course I had to put a tranny in it. Among other things, new Naugahyde interior, paint, etc. I was only a punk teenager then so nothing went back to original, just whatever looked good. So I couldn't say what is or isn't original but yours is definitely NICE!!
Enjoy the ride!!! |

Re: Did I finally find a GEM?
Hey Guys,
Thanks for the input and kind words; much appreciated. The brake light wires are off to remove the cross member. The trans is out and I'm waiting for clutch repair parts. The mats don't seem to be very brittle and they fit perfectly, especially the trunk mat. Driver side front mat has a few pieces missing just infront of the seat. The picture makes the paint look better than it is. It's a repaint at some point and has quite of bit of checkering...but it shines! I think it was sold because it had clutch chatter that was severe. I'm pretty sure that's now resolved. Need to get it back together to know for sure. I've driven it about 120 miles and it's mechanically great. Good brakes, tight steering and it doesn't rattle. I'm very happy with it. Thanks Dick |

Re: Did I finally find a GEM?
I hate to admit it, but I usually get stuff like this from Rock Auto. You'd be surprised what they carry. The local NAPA store can also surprise you at times if you can get them to understand what you want.
