Re: who restores vacuum wipers?
Forget Model A wipers. Buy some RainX.

Re: who restores vacuum wipers?
Maybe it doesn't need restoring. When the wiper on my '34 roadster quit I sprayed a little WD40 into it and it started working again. This happened around 10 years or so ago and it still works. It doesn't do a very good job though.

WD-40 is bad on potmetal, like the popout switch and wiper motors. It also messes up some plastics, like the divided plastic container I stored some bolts in, then sprayed them with WD-40 to prevent rust. |

Re: who restores vacuum wipers?
Ficken did mine about 20 years ago, and it's worked great ever since. Prior to that, when I was driving the car in high school, I took the wiper apart and greased its innards with some Lucky Tiger hair wax, which got it working again (the only luck the stuff ever brought me!).

Re: who restores vacuum wipers?
Different product, Tom, that was Brylcream--useless for my needs. You can't tell very well, but the "flattop" brush cut seen in my profile picture of me adding oil to my Ford took several dabs of something approximating axle grease to achieve the desired effect.
Alas, (unlike Bill) it's no longer a problem, although a few survivors are still trying to stay with the program. |

Re: who restores vacuum wipers?
I used a couple drops of 3-1 oil and mine has been working since.
