Re: Thunderbolt Motor ?
The Ford factory had a racing team back about 1964-5 that was called "Thunderbolts". They ran mostly Fairlanes back then. I stopped racing cars about 1966 and started racing motorcycles, but I think from visiting with a friend of mine that the Thunderbolts continued until about 1970 when the Ford motor corp. got out of racing. |

Re: Thunderbolt Motor ?
I seem to remember some 55 or + T-birds "roadsterized" in Cal club races ? But the word may have been later. |

Re: Thunderbolt Motor ?
1964 Ford put a 427 big block into a lightweight Fairlane body and went racing. Most I saw had high riser heads with 2X4 intakes.Rated at 425 horsepower but was actually closer to about 600.They had fiberglass body panels,no insulation or any options.Strickly racing.Very rare and valuable today because Ford used to advertise such products but it was very hard to actually obtain them. |

This is a lousy photo, but they had a hood scoop like this one in a Mustang hood. My Dad took the mold for this scoop from a Thunderbolt hood and put it in the Mustang. |
