Re: Model a hand crank
I sold a kid (who am i kidding he was older than i was) an old yamaha bobber and i had to give him a crash course on how to kick start a bike. Re: Model a hand crank
Remember - always pull up and never put your thumb around the crank. If you remember - could save you a lot of pain. Happy cranking, Bill

Re: Model a hand crank
I guess last car to have hand crank was Renault R4 ,
built (in Columbia) till 1991. Edit ok - should have read the link first. Still hand-crank might be available for Lada (will try to find out about). Last edited by Christoph; 11-08-2012 at 05:07 AM. |

I hand cranked my 49 Chevy truck a lot, but don't know when the last American car was built to have a hand crank. |

What about those crazy cup shape battery connectors held on by a self tapping screw!!! You only had to go over a few bumps and they would come loose. Then you had a bad connection and a non starting car no matter how good the battery was!! I think the British supplied cranks to allmost all the cars untill they got rid of those connectors in the 60's John Cochran |

I had forgotten about those+*%#^%^% battery cable ends! And how about those+*$^%$ Lucas batteries that under a HEAVY load test, one cell would mysteriously SWITCH polarity??? That condition would cause the Dynamo (generator) NOT to charge!! (No wonder I have handsome Grey Hair!!) Bill W.

Re: Model a hand crank
Had an old R50 BMW that I could actually start with my hand on the kick starter. Low stock compression. Didn't have to jump on it, just step down on it. My cousin had an old 60s Hilman Husky that we used to crank when the starter broke.

Lucky you. R50 is best BMW ever. You should have kept it. Im able to hand-kick-start my BMW R26 too. I got an R100GS (1992) with kick starter on it. They changed kick-starter-gear-ratio, as 40pound ladies should be able to use kick-starter too. 40 pound ladies are able to turn engine now BUT ...even fully-grown man (me) are not able to start the engine anymore. One kick is around 0,2 of one revolution. BMW got to get rid of kick-starters back than, as they forgot how ratio should be |
