Default crank packing

going to return the oil pan and its been a long long time since initialling front packing and how to cut excess packing top and bottom and does the pan up first then cam cover second? thanks 40 years since I worked on vintage stuff.

The packing if I am thinking it is the white rope seal shouldn't be cut if it is the right part for a model A. It should extend some for compression. it needs to be seated firmly in it's channel this can be done with a light hammer and a large socket on its curve. You might be able to verify all this with the parts supplier.

I think that you have to soak it in oil before installing it. I think.

I don't remember where I bought it, but my last one was PERFECTLY formed & stuck up just the right amount. DON'T soak them in oil, just a slight smear of grease on the inside. Oil will SLOWLY penetrate into it for lubrication & will keep it "PLUMP"!
