Default Were Gas Filter Screens Cad Plated Originally

Hello A Gang!

Just today I pulled the fuel filter screen out of A1 and I found a SECOND filter screen ( missing the retaining ring) loose inside the tank! Probably because it spent most of its life buried under gasoline,it is in really nice shape and looks to be Cadmium plated.I then looked at the first filter screen a bit closer and it MAY show traces of Cadmium too,but its a bit tougher to say for that one. Both are the March 1930 style with half inch wide tabs.

I do not see any finish mentioned in the JS; I am wondering if anyone can varify that these filter screens were indeed Cadmium plated, this is a Canadian car if it matters...thanks and happy fathers day to all...Kev, PS is Cadmium gasoline resistant???

Default Hi Kev, I read that they were cad plated. I also

found my screen laying in the bottom of the tank. I think when people fill up and let the hose hang there on it's own, it puts sideways pressure on the screen and pops it off. I bought one of those copy-cad kits from the plating outfit in Palmyra, NY. It does a nice job and looks very close to cad. Sandblast the part and plate it. Good Luck

HI KEV,

BE ADVISED THAT THERE WAS AT LEAST TWO TYPES. I THINK THE EARLY TYPE(EARLY 30 AND BACK TO 28) HAD SMOOTH SIDES WHERE THE OTHERS HAD RIDGES IN THE SIDES. BOTH WILL WORK OK. AND YES BOTH TYPES I HAVE ARE CAD PLATED. PROBABLY DIPPED VS PLATED.

Default earliest gas tank screens were brass

Howdy,

The earliest gas tank screens were brass. I don't know of any reason Ford would want to plate brass.

Default I have one brass screen. Do you know when they

quit using brass? I will have to look for it to be sure, but I thought it was plated.
