Default 8BA Question

In the process of putting my8BA back together again I have a question about the gooseneck looking tube that goes into the intake manifold next to the oil fill hole. I have the tube and it terminates right about the bottom of the water pumps. Where does it go from there and what is the purpose of it.

All my books leave me scratching my head.

Thanks.

You're missing a piece. On cars it continues along the pan to about mid-engine.

Road draft tubes came in two styles. One for Ford cars & trucks that has a bend near the middle of the lower tube section and the Mercury tube that is more straight with a slight bend down close to the bottom end. They had different cross members and oil pan configurations.

Thanks guys...that is what I thought it was, just wanted to be sure. Mine is going in a 31 Roadster so I am going to have to look at what kind of clearance I have left.
