Hi all, I'm new to the forum, and I have a part fitting question.

As the title says, I'm curious if 38 Ford Deluxe Front Fenders will fit a 40 Ford Half ton truck.
I have the fenders for sale, and the potential buyer wants them for his half ton truck.
I have been told that they will fit, or might need some adjustments to fit, but I'd like some additional clarification on that.

Car fenders and pickup fenders are not the same.

Ok thank you, seems I was misinformed then.

Are they close enough that they could be modified to fit?
I know with enough work anything can fit anything, of course.

38 deluxe fenders use 37-38 and 39 standard running boards which are significantly different than 40 running boards so the fender mounts are different. I believe 39 deluxe fenders may fit a 40 but if I remember the mounting holes on the truck cowl are different as well as a notch at the mounting hole. Of course the 40 is set up for sealed beams whereas the 38/39s have bulbs.

With a big enough hammer and bad enough eyesight, anything can be made to fit and you wont see any problems.

Seriously, if someone wanted a full custom front end it could be done... not that it should should be done. MAJOR bodywork to the fender to fit to the hood and grille, and to the hood sides.

There was a thread on the H.A.M.B. on these conversions (passenger car front sheet metal on late thirties and early forties Ford pickups). It takes a lot of work and skill, but I find the results to be very pleasing to the eye.

A good example is the late "Hamtown Al's" (RIP) '36 shown on his honorific thread.
