OEM '32 Tail Light Mounts
I bought a '32 Tudor recently. It's an older stock restoration but has been updated with juice brakes. I was checking things out again after I got it home and noticed that the driver side tail light mount appears to have been repaired at some point. Looking more closely at both the driver and passenger mount it looks like they are cast mounts. All the replacement mounts I see online are sheet metal. Where the original mounts cast? I've tried looking around with no luck confirming they were or were not.

Re: OEM '32 Tail Light Mounts
The originals were made of formed sheet steel. The cast brackets were aftermarket replacements from decades ago.

If you require real Fords, make sure the tube portion has a little taper as it goes up. The repros are straight diameter tube.
And the right side original mount will be very hard to find. . |

Re: OEM '32 Tail Light Mounts
I don't need originals. My car is not perfectly stock and will not remain perfectly stock. Mostly stock but mild mods are on the horizon. Think lightly hot rodded as would have been done in the 50's. Nothing irreversible.
I just wanted to locate a cast driver side mount if they were cast OE since mine had been repaired. Now that I know that cast units are not OE, I am not concerned with that. The CW Moss repops look like they are may be tapered. But even if they are not, that's not a deal breaker for me. https://cwmoss.com/collections/v8/pr...r-left#details Last edited by tjm73; 11-24-2023 at 07:23 PM. |

Re: OEM '32 Tail Light Mounts
With respect, the current Drake brackets are the same as those offered by C.W. Moss and others and they are not exact copies of the originals. The holes for attaching the bracket to the back end of the chassis frame are elongated whereas on the original brackets those holes are round. Otherwise, they are good reproductions.
