Default 1947 ford truck

Have a neighbor who has a 47 1/2 ton Ford truck.

Question: On the steering column just about where the dash & the column meet there is a toggle switch. It looks original. But we can't figure what it suppose to do. Was this something possibly added on years ago.. or is it factory?

A picture would be helpful. The only switch I see is the ignition switch. Does your look like this?

That is the ignition "ON-OFF" switch. The key only unlocks the switch AND the steering shaft. DD

Yep, that is the ignition switch, turns the ignition on and off. If it runs without it, it must have been rewired to another switch somewhere. How does he start it?

You're right, now that I think of it it was rewired. Well that mystery is solved.
Thanks to everyone for the info.
