In so much as I am a really seasoned old timer I am still cutting my teeth on my first flathead. Have a stock rebuilt 42 flattie for my roadster build that runs smooth as silk. Now I want to hop it up a bit as well as dress her up. I have a polished dual carb set up and looking to upgrade the heads.
What heads would be recommended for this set up? I was looking at Edelbrock 1126 heads with the block letters but I am open to other suggestions. Figure it's wise to stay away from used heads. Any thoughts on that issue? Thanks Fordbarn! |

Yes better to get new heads - my 41 had Edelbrock block letter heads fit in the 40s as part of the cars hop-up mods. Last year I decided to refit them onto the engine and while 1 of the heads was fine, the 2nd head cracked in the water jacket and right into the combustion chamber !
Suffice to say, I bought a new set of Edelbrock square letter heads and they are very nice performers and have great looks. I have an original Edelbrock Slingshot intake (this was run in 41-42) that would look like the cats pajamas, though I currently run the Hexagon twin carb setup ran in 47. |

Im still a newby to flatheads. I heard that these heads (in addition to looking cool) will help the engine run cooler. But I also heard they aren't as strong as stock head and can bend/warp and may need shaving - is this true?
