Re: Is this really rare?
I wonder how effective the word "rare" is when selling something? We all know that this vehicle is not rare. It may be uncommon in the scheme of things though.
This Fordor looks like a solid car, a driver and not a low mileage original car. The price is at the high end of the spectrum for this type of vehicle but it looks like it would be a good start for someone. |

Re: Is this really rare?
What's rare is getting that kind of $$$$$ for it...
There was a version with the blind quarters in running condition, near Detroit for like $6500? |

Re: Is this really rare?
They have the production number wrong. There were 91,173 Town Sedans made in 1929. Perhaps they confused it with the Town Car which had a total 1013 made in 1929.

Re: Is this really rare?
The car is close to me and I have thought about looking at it and getting some pictures.
As Bob said, there were tens of thousands of these Murrays made. What is rare about the car - look closely - is that the French Gray pinstripe is still on the gas tank AND the dash. The dash stripe is "not correct" according to the standards. My '29 Town Sedan, also a Murray, came to me "original" with an respray on the exterior and the tank and dash were pinstriped as seen here. I have seen one other Murray TS, unrestored original, at Hershey with a matching pinstripe on the dash. Interesting. Gar Williams |

Re: Is this really rare?
Every so often someone will post up one of those lists of terminology and translations for actual meanings..........often very funny. This is one such example.
Rare = overpriced for what it really is (I hope some sucker bites though) It seems that the word "solid" has become trite in auto ads too. Means practically nothing until defined.

Re: Is this really rare?
I've actually talked to the seller. He will be the first to tell you he knows nothing about cars.He recruited some old car guys and is going on what they told him, plus his dads info, that he got in the 60's from the old timers. We've all run into those old time experts. The ones that know the pickup beds were made out of the old packing crates, the brakes were never meant to work above 40MPH,leather belting would work as good as babbit, etc. He has also been told that if this car was a Tudor it would only be worth $2500-$3000.He seemed very reasonable to talk to,and is willing to listen.I think it was because I approached him politely, asked some questions and gave him some facts. He has been hit with a lot of insulting remarks, calling him an idiot, crook, the fact is the car is something of his fathers that he knows zero about. The local old car nuts set the price for him.
