Question Standard bearing parts numbers?

Does anyone know if there is a chart or cross-reference for standard parts numbers for Model A transmission and throw-out bearings? I'd like to be able to go to my local bearing supplier and just buy OTC.

But he or she will need something besides the description, no? I can't just go in and say, I want all the bearings for a 1929 Ford 3-speed tranny. At least, I don't think I can. I guess I could try.

All you need is the Ford part numbers that they can look up in a bearing interchange.

I did the same before I even read your post because the correct parts are very hard to find here in Mexico. This will help some!

Found this great site for finding cross referenced parts.

http://www.autopartoo.com/oem/timken/22168timken.html

Just put your part number into the search window and it will spit out a bunch of part numbers from other manufacturers.

One warning though; for numbers like 68 1225-A, for example, show as 681225A. The numbers it spits out may be minus a space or hyphen also, but the web sorts most of that out when you do a search for a part number.

Surprisingly GM, Studebaker, Chrysler, Fiat, and others used a lot of the same parts under different part numbers.

Also, Jim Mason had a complete Model A bearing and seal Xref list on his old site. I am not sure whether that still exists.
That list and some supplemental Ford stuff also exist on the HAMB in several forms...might be a difficult search.
Trans bearing information is also on Vince's Model A Garage site, with a LOT of other good information.

The problem I have had, ...and wonder if others have found this to be true is, most NAPA and mass-merchandiser parts houses cannot sell these items as cheaply as what the Snyders, Brattons, et/al seemingly can. Has anyone else tried pricing them in their locale??

Yep. I found the same thing here. Costs more (about 20%!) from a local shop than from a Model A supplier. I went back to Bratton's.

Also another problem I have found with bearings is even if you give them the Timken number that is no gaurantee you are going to get a Timken bearing. Most model A suppliers you can just about gaurantee you are going to get a genuine Timken bearing, not just whatever brand they send you based on parts interchange. Rod

I found the same thing as Brent, and since I usually need other parts I put them all on one order to save a bit on shipping.
