Default 35 lower end, pistons, please help

Hi, i need help, i have a 35 motor, all the pistons are marked front. 1 through 4 are put in with the mark facing front and 5 through 8 the mark is facing rear.there is a hole and a notch cut in the pistons, it is facing the cam , or center of the motor on all the pistons. this motor rebuilt 30 years ago, and it sat until about two years ago. it has maby 2 hrs of run time on it mostly idle time. my other question is there is no safety wire on the mains. should i back them off then retork and wire them up . this motor has babbitt mains hear are some photos , please help thanks

Brendan, The hole and notch you refer to are the 'split skirt' feature of these pistons I referred to in my earlier post. You have 4 pistons in backward. Those backward facing pistons have the weaker split skirt on the thrust side of the cylinder, consequently you can expect a catastrophic engine failure should you choose to continue running it like this. Your choice!
Re the missing lock wire; sure, for your own piece of mind you could add it, I mean, why not? you've got the engine stripped to this stage, fix it! Brian

Yea what Brian said....FIT IT ! Brenda its not a quad-cam Indy engine, just an eight cylinder Briggs & Stratton. Buy yourself a shop manual, it will usually anser your questions, plus they have pictures.....Ed

With the engine right side up the split skirt on the piston should face the left side, drivers side if it's a USA car. In other words the 1-2-3-4 right hand side pistons, splits should face the cam--5-6-7-8 the split should face the left ouside edge of the block. The no. on the rods should face the front of the engine. Accually the rods will run either way as long as the no. on the rod and the cap face each other. Walt
